General: Marcus Aurelius was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD. Known to many as the old Emperor at the beginning of the movie Gladiator, Marcus Aurelius was the last of the Five Good Emperors. Following his death he was succeeded by his son Commodus who is remembered in history for a legacy of eccentricity, cruelty and poor management of the Roman Empire.
