Archaeological News: Lost Metal of Atlantis Found on Shipwreck

Corinthian Helmet

Last month, archaeologists discovered orichalcum ingots, Corinthian war helmets and ancient containers for scented oils, in a shipwreck 300m off the cost of Gela in Southern Scility.

The ship dates back to the 6th century BC. Orichalcum is the same alloy used by the Romans to make their Sestertii and Dupondii Romans following the coinage reform of Augustus in 23 BC.

Orichalcum is supposedly a metal used in the mythical city of Atlantis known for its glistening properties also described as a magical glow.

The archaeologists discovered more of the orichalum ingots lining the ocean floor. Their discovery has fuelled speculation of a potential discovery of Atlantis.
