The Tauric Chersonese (Χερσόνησος Ταυρική) meaning "Tauric Peninsula" is known today as the Crimean Penninsula. Its history began in the 5th century BC with the settlement by Greek colonies. It would remain Greek in culture for over 2,000 years before being taken over by successive different empires.
